Com um ritmo inebriante, Big Waves traz consigo uma história bastante pessoal:
Big Waves tells about the indifference and irresponsibility in the modern world. It’s the feeling of finding yourself at home under the soothing waves, while the chaotic sounds coming from the outside world are left unheard. Those waves tell you that somebody else will make a change and that somebody else will save the world. Nowadays, some of us have a privilege to observe the devastation caused by consumer society from a safe distance. Finland is a good example of this – the happiest country in the world. I wrote ‘Big Waves’ soon after moving back from London to Helsinki. For me London had a reputation of being the heart of high-culture, music and big dreams, which is why so many, me included, have moved there. What struck me, was getting in touch with the world’s harshness for the first time in my nordic life. Nevertheless, while living and struggling financially in London, the world felt more real than in my home country. The problems were everywhere, and it was somehow reassuring to be out of the safety-bubble. The question is how to live happily while knowing that the world is in chaos? We have to stop being passive, take action and change the course, which is the underlying message of ‘Big Waves’.

Sir Jay is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer based in Helsinki, Finland. His self-produced tracks aim to capture the moment by using experimental folk-rock aesthetics, the imaginary flow of lyrics, and vibrating drum patterns as well as body percussion. The artist’s journey started two years ago in London, where he wrote the first drafts of his songs. Sir Jay is the former lead singer of Helsinki based indie rock band Bye Mandu and has also worked with many top Finnish musicians throughout his career. He has released one single, and his debut EP is scheduled for release in fall 2019.
